Story

Hey folks

Delighted to report we made it! Thanks for all your fantastic support and encouragement. I can honestly say that the ride from London to Brighton through the night leaving at midnight and arriving at 07.35 was one of the most challenging, rewarding and exhilarating experiences I've ever had (bar the children!). The thrill of leaving in the dark in a great cavalcade of twinkling lights and glowing gear all ruling the road together was wholly unexpected and tremendous. All the training and hard work came together and lent wings to the ankles. On leaving London we climbed a bit, in greener and greener surroundings, until our first rest stop, where gallons of water and a quick coffee gave one a pep to start the real stages which were longer. There were two more rest stops, the final one being 17 miles from Brighton, where I downed a bacon butty for the last leg. And jolly good it was too. Thanks go to my husabnd for being support vehicle (always likes to check up on me!!) and my friend Lucy who pedalled all that way with me (cool cat) and with whom I shared many a laugh along the way. She was marvellous.

Highlights? Bombing down the tunnel of dark leafy lanes at full speed, cresting the hills just when you thought you were going to pass out and, the wonderful dawn on the South Dawns which looked looked like the Vaughan Williams music I mentioned in one of the posts. Stunning.

Top highlight? Arriving of course, and seeing the sea!!! I cried.

If anyone had said to me 10 weeks ago that I was going to buy a bike and train alone to cycle 60 miles at night, I would never have believed them. But having a goal which is then dedicated is truly motivating, as is receiving so many kind donations and well wishes, for which again, my heartfelt thanks.

If you haven't donated already but would still like to, or know of someone else who wishes to, this page remains open for another three months, so don't hold back! It may help someone you know!

Golly... Full of nervous 'unto the breach' feelings tonight. Sitting outside. Candles glimmering. Vaughan Williams' Sea Symphony streaming live from Albert Hall - marvelling at so much beauty shared across time by so many souls...on the sea and the waves of life.

Just off to Waitrose to buy some more pasta - will I ever back into my clothes again?! I just know what a difference it'll make, along with all the other naughty things like chococlate raisins, jelly babies, and... ah best not confess any further.... feeling nervous and excited!

Amazing day yesterday riding out in the sunshine - 30 miles! Hills slightly more manageable, and feeling in tune with the bike. Good rehearsal for next weekend. Please send angels and wings to all for a safe trip. Thank you again for your support! xxx

After a week off thanks to a grisly cold and sore legs - been back in the saddle this week and covered 45 miles (over 3 rides I hasten to add!) Maybe more tomorrow. It's balance, as I am rapidly discovering! Rest in between the big pushes is the trick!
