Story
I am attempting the 2012 Marathon Des Sables in Morocco. ‘The Toughest Footrace on Earth’ it is a 250km race run across the Sahara desert, equivalent to 6 marathons over 6 days, run over sand dunes, mountainous sections and flat interminable roasting-hot plains. It’s also a self-sufficient race, which means that I will have to carry all my required provisions such as food, clothes and sleeping equipment for the duration of the race. The only assistance I will receive is water handed out at checkpoints and a Berber tent to share with 7 other odorous competitors each night
Race Itinerary:
Sunday 8th April - 23 miles
Monday 23 miles
Tuesday 24 miles
Wed/Thurs - 52.4 miles Long run, I can sleep on the course if I like!
Friday - 26.2 miles Marathon Day
Saturday 14th April - 13.1 miles Half-Marathon day + Shower!
As well as a personal challenge, I am doing this race with the aim of raising as much as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society.
I've been doing lots of training for it too! Last weekend I ran 60 miles in the spring sunshine! Lovely.
I’ll be sending out a few training updates in the weeks leading up to the event and if all goes well, a brief email at the end of each day’s run. Let me know if you would like to receive these emails.
