We are trying to raise as much money as possible for ‘The Centre’, which offers Free Confidential Counselling & Support to Women who have experienced any form of sexual violence.

 

The Rape & Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (Darlington and County Durham) is a charity for women and is run by women!

 

‘The Centre’ provides free, face-to-face counselling, telephone support, information and advice for ALL women and young girls aged 13 and over who have been raped, sexually abused or have suffered domestic abuse at any time in their life. We offer external training on a variety of topics relating to the damaging consequences of rape, sexual abuse and domestic abuse.

 

In conjunction with this we are raising awareness around ‘Elimination of Violence Against Women Day’ Monday 25 November 2013.

 

DC 1868 Lynsey Eglington and DC 2385 Elizabeth Graham of Durham Constabulary are completing a tandem skydive jump on the 22 November 2013 in association with Peterlee Skydive Academy Ltd.

As well as this DI 1708 Carl Moss will be undergoing a full body wax on Thursday 28 November 2012

 

The inspiration for this stems from two relationships, which have been formed. The first is the relationship DC 1868 Lynsey Eglington has formed with Hayley Robinson who is a survivor of Domestic Abuse. The second is between the officers and ‘The Centre’, which is key component aiding in the recovery of woman who have been raped, sexually abused or have suffered domestic abuse at any time in their life

 

The following has been composed by Hayley Robinson. It gives a clear meaning of what she thinks:-

 

“This Elimination of Violence against women day is a reminder of how far I've come. Having been a victim of domestic violence the main factor that got me through was trust.

 

Trust played an important part in my case ever reaching court and my ex-partner  being convicted and sentenced.

 

The day after the attack I was visited in hospital by an officer from the safeguarding team at Darlington. I was frightened to talk to the police because I had been manipulated so much but I knew I had to trust them if I was to start regaining control of my life. I spoke to the officer – Detective Constable Lynsey Eglington – and we built up a close relationship. Without the help of Lynsey and all the other wonderful people whose job it is to deal with victims and bring perpetrators to justice, I would not have had the strength to get through this. This is why this event means a lot to me. If I can help just one person or make a difference then that makes it all worthwhile. No women should lose their dignity or self-respect. Every woman deserves their voice to be heard and given a chance to rebuild themselves without living a lifetime of violence or fear.”
