My story

“We've come here to pay our respects to Great Aunt Nellie. She brought us up properly and taught us loyalty. Now I want you to remember that during these next few days. I also want you to remember that if you don't come back with the goods, Nellie here will turn in her grave, and, likely as not, jump right out of it and kick your teeth in.”

Film fans will recognise this quote as being from The Italian Job, where the magnificent Noel Coward played Mr Bridger, the mastermind who ran the job in question from his luxurious prison cell. This film is the inspiration behind an Italian Job Car Rally taking place in September to raise money for Childline, which has been adopted as our industry’s charity. The committee behind the annual White Hat Ball have organised this three day rally for a bit of fun and a good cause. We at Portcullis are keen to support such initiatives and have registered a team under the name of “Bridger’s Boys” who will be driving a small six seater mini-bus, made out to look like an ice-cream van with a mobile bar in the back! The Portcullis Arms is going on tour!

The rally starts at 8.30am on Friday the 11 of September in . The first days route will take us through the Champagne region, and on through the French countryside to the ancient city of . Day two sets out past scenic Lake Geneva and then on over stunning mountain passes through the Alps, including the awesome Grand St Bernard and then the final leg of the day concludes in . On day three; the route then heads south to the coast via the magnificent Col du Tende and the opulence of , before finishing along the French Riviera in Nice.

If you would like to make a donation to Childline in support of this White Hat Rally then you can go to our just giving page and 100% of your donation goes straight into the Childline bank account. I would like to thank you in advance for your generous support of this very worthy cause. “Together we can make sure that nobody has to be in Gary Glitter’s gang”
