This should really read - Jane Davies's story.
The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund was set up in 1988 by Mark’s mother, Jane, following his fatal eventing fall and since then the charity has provided well over a million pounds’ worth of help to injured riders and their families. To mark its 21st Anniversary, our new Poundcatcher campaign aims to raise at least £1 from every rider in the country.
* NEW EVENT FOR 2010 - Ellen Whitaker and Richard Davison get on their bikes - you could follow them.. *
A charity cycle ride, in which everybody can participate – actively or passively - will launch at the British Open Show Jumping Championships at the NEC (7-10 April) and raise money for Poundcatcher. First to go in the Horseboxworld John O’Groats-to-Lands End Ride will be Richard Davison and Ellen Whitaker who will launch the event on the Friday (9 April) of the Championships and start out on the 970km journey. Everyone can contribute either by:
· Jumping on the exercise bike themselves (at the Shows) and completing a few kms towards the target distance. Cyclists will be asked to make a donation or submit their own sponsorship before participating.
Or
· Sponsoring friends and family to ‘have a go’........More info at www.mdirf.co.uk or www.horseboxworld.com
The support of The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, when launching the campaign, raised over £7,000 from collection tins and sponsored rides. Special Thanks must go to The Burghley Annual Sponsored Ride, supported by Virbac Equimax, Eraquell and Horse & Rider and Pony magazines, which alone raised £6,000 of this total.
Since Burghley, increased awareness of the charity has resulted in a trebling of enquiries from injured riders requesting support SO WE NEED your help even more.
The Fund exists to help ALL riders who cannot access assistance from anywhere else. And, that's irrespective of whether they: ride for fun, compete at any level or work with riding or competition horses.
The following companies and organisations are currently on board as Poundcatcher partners helping us to collect in the pounds. Please support them: official Poundcatcher partners: www.yourhorse.co.uk; www.burghley-horse.co.uk; www.britishgrooms.org.uk ; www.horseboxworld.com; www.horserequisites.co.uk; www.dodsonandhorrell.com; www.HorseVideoAnalysis.com and www.sciencesupplements.co.uk
