Four years ago, my step son Samuel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on his 4 birthday.  It was a terrible day for the whole family and it was just the start of a long journey for Sam as he was treated for the next 3 and a quarter years of his life.  

I had absolutely no idea when Sam first started his treatment just how harsh and punishing the treatment is and how severely it affects the body.  There were times during the treatment when he was extremely weak and extremely unhappy, it was very long road and at times we couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. 

Four years on, Sam has completed his treatment and is really well.  All of the hospital staff and team that helped to save Sam's life were fantastic.  I would love to give something back to all that helped Sam to fully recover and all those who are totally committed to the cause of beating Leukaemia.  I see the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research organisation as a major force in improving the way that Leukaemia is treated.  Whilst the survival rates are higher than ever the treatment programme is a horrible experience for children.  There is nothing I'd like to see more than a cure for the disease which allows children to lead a normal life whilst being treated.

Sam has completed his marathon.  I would love to raise a significant amount of money to help give other children the chance to not have to go through what Sam had to go through.
