Hi, my name is Rachael Thornton and I am fundraising to go and teach English with the charity Project Trust for a year in rural China. In order to participate in this once in a lifetime experience I need to raise £5900.

Project Trust is a charity that sends school leavers in their gap year to work voluntarily in over 20 countries. Their aim is to provide volunteers with an educational experience through living and working with people in communities very different to their own, without taking work away from local people.

China is in real need of Project Trust’s assistance. It is a beautiful and diverse country which is home to the largest population on Earth, yet, many people in rural areas live in poverty. The schools are becoming increasingly underfunded and under staffed which makes the work Project Trust does in these areas all the more important.   

With your help I can raise the funds I need to teach English in China. The money I raise will mostly be used to get me to the project and support me whilst I’m there. This can help ensure that I can be of real help to the local communities and the people I will be working with. 

I have several fundraising events organised to help me achieve this aim, such as cycling the equivalent distance between Newcastle and Coll, a band night, weekly cake sales at school and bag packs at supermarkets.
