SO.
Having watched the London Marathon 2011 I felt inspired to enter the ballot. As time passed I soon began to regret this moment of madness but given the ridiculous odds I figured the likelihood of me getting a place was so slim it wouldn't actually happen. WRONG.
First time ballot entry, first time marathon runner, first class fool. Now some of you may think I'm fairly active and running a marathon isn't such a crazy thing for me to be doing. WELL let me tell you
a) I've never ran more than 8 miles in my life (let alone nearly 4 times that distance...)
b) The London marathon is the equivalent of me running from Stamfordham, to central Newcastle, oh and then back again. OR from the little flat in Oval south west London all the way to ST ALBANS. Yeah... pretty darn far...
c) In fact if I ran 1 mile every week between now and the start of the marathon I still wouldnt have ran a full marathon by the time April 22nd came round. let alone running the distance all in one go
So you get the picture! Now, a little about the charity that I have chosen to support. Because I received a balloted entry place I have been fortunate enough to choose who I fundraise for. I wanted to help a charity close to home, where the money raised would make a visible difference and a truly significant contribution.
According to new statistics released by the National Cancer Institute, thyroid cancer is the fastest growing cancer among women. The Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust was founded by the mum of a schoolfriend following her own diagnosis with this rare cancer and is a patient led, voluntary organisation so every single penny will help in keeping the organisation going and providing invaluable support for those whose lives are affected nad promoting awareness of Thyroid Cancer so that lives can be saved and cancer can be beaten.
