Hey folks,
Thanks for taking the time to look at my page. For those of you who don't know, I'm heading over to Thika, Kenya in January 2010 to work with a wonderful charity called Action for Children in Conflict. The charity is almost 15 years old and has worked in several locations worldwide. The main aims of AfCiC are to work with children who have been affected by conflict by providing them with emotional, pyschological, and educational support with the hope that the future will be brighter for themselves and their families.
The AfCiC website is fantastic and provides masses of information about all the projects they run etc so please do take a look to read more. http://www.actionchildren.org/
I will be working with AfCiC initially for 6 months and my role whilst I am out there is Sponsorship Co-ordinator/ Fundraiser. I will be working closely with many of the children and their families ensuring that they are receiving the neccessary support as well as with local businesses to raise funds and also build relationships.
In order to gain experience for my role out there and also raise money for the charity I am going to be holding some fundraising events in the next few months so do look out and please attend if you can. I understand that its always a tough one asking people for sponsorship but please do believe me when I say that every little helps so even if it is just £1 it is so greatly appreciated and the best bit is that using JustGiving means that we can claim Gift Aid so £1 becomes more than £1 (you try and figure it out?!)
Whilst I am out there I will be self sufficient, paying all my own accommodation, living and leisure costs. I do however need to donate at least £800 to the charity which I will be able to see being spent during my time over there - this is the only way that charities like AfCiC can run so successfully. 100% of this donation will go to the charity and I will be keeping everyone updated as to exactly how it is getting spent throughout my stay.
So please do donate if you can, come along to events as they happen, and if you are keen to help or get involved at all please get in touch by email rachel_lock@hotmail.com.
