My story
Raleigh provides opportunities for all young people regardless of their background and socio-economic situation. We provide places on expedition for young people from the countries in which we work. We fundraise to cover the costs of each participant as without this support a place on expedition would be out of their reach.
Young people from the countries we work face many challenges:
In Costa Rica, due to the lack of resources, the quality of public education has worsened, thus increasing the inequality in academic achievements between students in public and private schools
In India youth literacy remains below 80% and as many as 23 million children aged 5-14 are believed to work, with another 75 million out of school
In Malaysian Borneo there is a need to improve the lives of indigenous peoples, migrants, and the disadvantaged
In Nicaragua there are high levels of inequality related to basic services, to the justice system, and to opportunities for the population in general
The aim of the bursary programme is to empower young people from a diverse range of backgrounds to be able to assume positions of responsibility in their communities and apply all they have learnt on Raleigh including new skills, increased knowledge and a strong sense of self belief to improve their future prospects.
Your support would enable young people from Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua and India to make a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.
Thank you for your support.
