This is Kids Company’s first attempt to reach the summit of the highest peak in North Africa in a three-day expedition from Imlil at the base of the High Atlas. Known locally as Jebel Toubkal, Mt Toubkal stands 4167m above sea level and commands superb views of the High Atlas Mountains. This challenging two-day ascent passes through remote villages and terraced fields offering an insight into the life of the hardy and friendly Berber people.
I work as an events co-ordinator for Kids Company, a truly London based charity that prides itself on the practical, emotional and educational support that we offer vulnerable inner-city children on a daily basis.
Many of the 13,500 children reached by Kids Company’s services have experienced severe and multiple trauma. Often these are ‘lone children’ living in chronic deprivation, with little or no support from the adults in their family.
We aim to provide an environment where relationships of empathy and attachment can be fostered between children and trusted adults. The support we offer is tailored to the needs of each individual child. We offer unrelenting love for every child, whatever it takes: no matter how disturbed a child is, they will never be turned away.
