My story

On Thursday 4th August 2011 Ray sadly passed away after bravely battling bladder cancer for just over a year. Ray will be sorely and deeply missed by his wife, Moira, and his two sons, Paul and Steve, not to mention other family and a number of great friends.

Throughout his battle with cancer Ray was supported by a number of people and organisations, but there was one place in particular that offered support throughout the process that Ray was particularly thankful for; this was Oakhaven Hospice.

Oakhaven not only offered vital nursing support to Ray and Moira whilst Ray was at home but also provided a tranquil and safe environment where Ray was able to pass on in peace and comfort. Indeed even now Oakhaven are offering support for the family to cope with the hole that Ray's passing has left in his loved one's lives.

Ray's funeral is taking place on Wednesday 24th August 2011 and we hope that many family and friends will join us to celebrate Ray's life. We would ask that rather than sending flowers friends consider making a charitable donation through this page to support Oakhaven and the wonderful work they do.

As Oakhaven say:

“It costs in the region of £2.5M to run Oakhaven's services and we receive just 18% NHS funding towards meeting those costs. The balance must be generated from donations, legacies and our own fundraising initiatives. Therefore, as you can imagine, your donations and support are very important to us; it means a great deal when the community we support supports us in return.”
