About a year ago, in a moment of utter madness I decided to run a marathon (it may have had something to do with a rapidly approaching milestone birthday...). The Berlin Marathon had a certain appeal – it’s flat and, at the time, it seemed a long way away! It’s still flat, but race day – 20 September – is rapidly approaching…. Argh!
I am running this marathon to support a fantastic charity, which means a lot to me – Chance UK.
Chance UK provides 1:1mentoring to children aged 5-11 who have behavioural difficulties. The mentors are trained to work in a solution focussed way to raise their mentees self esteem. Many of the children that Chance UK work with have/are on the verge of being permanently excluded from school
I was a volunteer mentor with Chance UK last year. These guys do fabulous work (with very little money) to help change the lives of young people in Hackney, Islington, and Lambeth. My mentee and I had a grand time of it. For a whole year we met every week, doing lots of different things (some fun – e.g. swimming; some not so fun (in his opinion) – e.g. the library), which inspired him to improve his behaviour in the new found confidence that a bright and happy future was possible in which through application absolutely anything is achievable.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Grateful for any money you can chuck my way! A million thanks for your support... I will, of course let you know how I get on.
Thanks!!
Reannan
