!! Rebecca celebrates transplant anniversary !!
Saturday 25th May 2013
Uxbridge resident Rebecca Earley is celebrating one year since the bone marrow transplant which cured her leukaemia.
Rebecca,23, says, ‘I had been feeling under the weather for a very long time before Iwas diagnosed but I thought I was just coming down with a cold or flu. When Itold the doctor my symptoms, she called my local A&E informing them that Iwould be on my way and needed to be seen as soon as possible.’
Rebeccawas diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in November 2011. Rebecca’sfirst round of chemotherapy was not successful and the doctors told her thatshe would need a bone marrow transplant to survive. Rebecca’s brother was not asuitable match and so Anthony Nolan searched their register to find anunrelated bone marrow donor.
Rebecca’stransplant took place in May 2012 and she has made a very good recovery. She ishoping to go back to her final year studying Primary Education at RoehamptonUniversity in September 2013.
‘I know Istill have a long way to go but if what I have been through so far didn't knockme down then getting back to my old self and building myself back up won'tknock me down either.
‘I cannotput into words how thankful I am for my donor and will be forever grateful tohim. If it wasn’t for donors like him and Anthony Nolan, who recruit people tothe bone marrow register, I wouldn’t be here today. I want to encourage as manypeople as possible to join the bone marrow register as you could be a match forsomeone. You could help someone who is in the same position as I was a yearago.’
AnnO’Leary, Head of Register Development at Anthony Nolan, says, ‘We are delightedthat Rebecca is doing well one year on from her transplant. At the moment wecan only find suitable donors for around half the people who need a lifesavingbone marrow transplant, like Rebecca. We particularly need more young men aged16-30 to join the register as they are the most likely to be chosen to donate.’
Thank youto the Anthony Nolan Charity and to all of the people who have generouslydonated to this "Justgiving" page.

Thursday 24th November 2011
Hello,
My 21 year old daughter, Rebecca, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (A.L.L) on Thursday 24th November 2011. It came as a total shock to the whole family and has changed our lives dramatically.
A.L.L isa fast growing form of cancer of the white blood cells or bone marrow. Itis a rare type of cancer, affecting approximately 400 adults per year inthe UK. In adults it is most common between the ages of 15-25. Thedifferent leukaemia's likely have different causes but in all cases, change thelives of the patients, their families and friends drastically.
In the year 2000, approximately 256,000 children and adultsaround the world developed some form of leukaemia and 209,000 did notsurvive. However, over the last decade with the help of charities andresearch institutions, a great deal of progress towards curing Leukaemia hasbeen made. For more information you can visit the following site:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_lymphoblastic_leukemia
I stillhave a lot to learn about Leukaemia and I know my daughter has a hardroad ahead of her. With the help of her family, friends, doctors andnurses, I know she will come through this successfully and I would like tothank you all for the strength you have given us.
Beccaneeds as many thoughts and prayers as possible and with your donations, I knowwe can all help to increase awareness and fund more research into this lifechanging illness.
