We help Deaf and hard of hearing people to live confidently with their hearing loss

Story

GDA need the support more than ever. Statistics shows that about 45-50% of deaf people have mental health issues. Where did that come from? Depression from isolation? Isolation due to lack of information? Lack of information due to lack of awareness? and the list goes on.

Please sponsor me and/or my three children, daughter age 13, son age 9 and daughter age 9.

GDA are working tirelessly to set up a range of projects to raise self-esteem of the people in the deaf community. Have you ever thought about how many opportunities deaf people have when going to a cinema? employment? information from medical professionals? and again the list goes on.

Did you know that 25% of profoundly and severely deaf people are in employment compared to about 75% of the population? Did you know that 36% of deaf children can't swim due to lack of communication at swimming clubs? Did you know that only one cinema showing per week has subtitles compared to about 300 showings per week per cinema? Did you know that the national success rate for GSCE grade A* to C grade is 69%, but for deaf children it's 37%.

Do donate and be generous, as I'm really stretching myself to compete in a triathlon event! I'll even fork out myself for a massage at the end!!

About the charity

GDA offers practical and emotional support to children and adults living in Gloucestershire, who have been born deaf and are British Sign Lanuage (BSL) users, and those who have become deaf through illness or age.
