My story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving site
I have chosen to run the 2012 London Marathon for Dyslexia Action which is a cause that is close to my heart as my eldest daughter has had particular difficulties learning to read, write and spell. However since attending Dyslexia Action in Sheffield she has made fantastic progress and is now enjoying and doing well at school, which has increased her confidence and self esteem. Her younger sister, who has problems with numeracy known as dyscalculia has also benefited tremendously from the maths support.
Dyslexia affects 1 in 10 of the population and is often a hidden disability. It can affect anyone and occur at any level of intelligence and is the most common of all the specific learning disabilities. Those who are disadvantaged will suffer most through out their lives.
However with specialist teaching and support children and adults can be taught to cope with the condition and learn to overcome this disability and stop it being a barrier to achievement .
I am raising money for Its ME! (My Education!) A Dyslexia Action appeal where all the money raised from your sponsorship will go towards the Its ME! Learning Fund in Sheffield to give children and adults the chance to receive specialist tuition who could not otherwise be able to access this support due to social or financial exclusion.
I am hoping to exceed my target of £2012 . Please donate what ever you can!

I completed the 2012 London Marathon in 4.18.35, it was a fantastic experience! Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me and supported my fundraising. The money raised will help to change the lives of more children, young people and adults with dyslexia in Sheffield.

6 million people in the UK are affected by dyslexia, that's 10% of the population. Dyslexia can affect all areas of your life, not just reading and writing. It can cause low self esteem, anxiety, frustration and even depression if unidentified. Through our 26 centres, 158 outposts and our work in schools we work to improve lives through education. <p> Your money could make a real difference to the lives of those affected by dyslexia. <p> £25 - could fund a one hour session of multi-sensory tuition £50 - could pay for a parent to attend an awareness course £100 - could help towards the cost of keep a local centre open for one day Your donation will enable us to continue with our valuable work.
