My story

Supporting Nalango Secondary, Uganda, in memory of Rob Gauntlett:

In 2009, Rob Gauntlett and James Atkinson tragically died in the Alps. Two brilliant lives cut short - to me, two wonderful friends, without whom I wouldn't have had half the life I have, and who remain with me every day.

Six months after the funeral, as Rob and James would have wanted, we decided we all needed some adventure, some fun, some good to come of it all.  So we rode from John O' Groat's to Land's End - a replica of the first adventure I had with Rob, and a ride that James repeated himself.  1000 miles of freedom and fresh air on the roads, an epic achievement from many who had never cycled before.  As we rode into Land's End, many of us were overwhelmed.

As Rob would put it, we had put one foot in front of the other: Three years further on, and the Rob Gauntlett Trust is providing quality education in Uganda: http://www.henryvanstraubenzeemf.org.uk/

Now, our attentions turn to the continent: we shall pedal One Mile Closer, 1000km from Provence to Sussex, seeking out once again the wonder of the road, the wind and the hills, of good company, laughter, and, once again, Rob and James' inspiration.

Close to my heart as ever, I thank you, and I hope you find as much joy in the trip as me, and will be able to help the projects in Rob and James name.  Any money donated on the website will go to Rob's project in Uganda, for donations to James' Bequest at Christ's Hospital, please go through the team page http://www.justgiving.com/teams/One-Mile-Closer, which also provides more information on the project in Uganda.  More on the trip can be found on http://onemilecloser.com/
