We restore wetlands to unlock their power for people & wildlife

Story

The Spoon-billed Sandpiper is a critically endangered bird that breeds  on the Chukotsk and Kamchatka peninsulas in the Russian Far East. Statistics show that unless this wonderful rarity gets help NOW it could be extinct within a decade. Luckily there is already a serious campaign underway with a variety of partners including  Birds Russia, Moscow Zoo and the RSPB working with colleagues from the BTO, BirdLife International, ArcCona and the Spoon-billed Sandpiper Task Force and Wildfowl Wetlands Trust; who have already been successful in rearing young at their facility in Slimbridge Gloucestershire.

On the 5th July 2014 I will be taking part in the Fan Dance Challenge organized by Avalanche Endurance Events. This epic 24 kilometer brutal trek takes place in the Brecon Beacons National Park and follows the same route used by British Special Forces during their selection week. It starts at the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre and goes over Pen y Fan (the highest mountain in South Wales) along the Roman Road to a turn around point where participants retrace their steps to the infamous 'Jacobs Ladder'. This ascent demands grit, determination and character to again summit Pen y Fan before heading back to Storey Arms.

This is where we can help. With a little effort and support from us we can participate and contribute to the survival of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper.

So, will you help me? Will YOU be a part of a movement and team that takes the responsibility and pride for ensuring the survival of a very special bird?

If so, please make a donation on this page. It only takes a few clicks and ANY contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards and many thanks
Rich Mooney
