Story
Paul was 47 and my best mate.
Just before Christmas, Paul died after a long battle with an aggressive brain tumour. He received the best medicines available, the best care and the best support. In the end, though, he lost his fight and a family was robbed of a dad, a husband and even a last Christmas together. I'll always remember Paul and always miss him, but I've promised myself not to be sad. I shall remember him as he was, not as he was with Cancer.
So, on April 18th, I'll be pulling on my running shoes and tackling the 26.2 miles of the Brighton Marathon. It will be my first marathon and I'm running in memory of Paul. As I grind along, I'll remember the good times we shared, the jokes, the wit and the easy banter that comes from comfortable friendship.
Do please donate to this page. Although many of you won't have known Paul, you may have your own experiences of how cancer impacts on the lives of friends and family. Donations go to the Brain Tumour Research Campaign (BTRC). BTRC (in assocation with Way Ahead) works with a Neurosciences team at Charing Cross Hospital/Imperial College London to promote research into the causes and treatment of brain tumours, to raise public awareness of the need for this research and the current lack of funding. BTRC is the charity chosen by Paul's widow, Jenny, for donations in memory of Paul.
I'd like to think that, one day, people in Paul's situation might have a better chance of survival. The work goes on to make that the case. Please give generously.
