My story

I ever since I first read about the academy in an article in The Times earlier this year i have wanted to get involved. After about 6 months of long distance badgering/encouragement i am off to act as their physiotherapist from July 2010.  I will be starting pretty much from scratch as the current facilities consist of a room and a wooden bed. Your donations will be used to equip the physiotherapy department!

Right to Dream, is a registered charity and NGO in Ghana, Sierra Leone, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA) and would welcome your support for the position of our new specialist Physiotherapist, Richard Evans, who will be based in Ghana at the Right to Dream Academy from July 2010.

Our vision is to ‘offer talented, but underprivileged children the opportunity to fulfil their true potential in life through sport and education and ensure that these children are motivated and empowered to make meaningful, lifelong contributions to their community and country’.  In Ghana, Right to Dream has the non-profit making, fully residential international school, the Right to Dream Academy based in Old Akradi, Eastern Region of Ghana.

At Right to Dream we have identified the need to appoint a Physiotherapist that can meet the health and specialist sports injury needs of the children in our care.  At this time, we do not have a specialist Physiotherapy unit and are reliant on the kind donation of people’s time, expertise and resources to meet our children’s needs.  However, our fundraising goal for 2010-11 is to build a specialist Sports Science and Health Centre that will benefit our pupils first and foremost and the wider community.

Having a full-time Physiotherapist on site will ensure that we are able to offer injury prevention education, emergency first aid and specialist rehabilitation treatment that is key to the health and wellbeing of our children.

In short, any donation of equipment made towards supporting this Physiotherapist position would be very gratefully received and will ensure we are able to improve the specialist care we are able to offer our students and the wider community.

I hope that you are enthused as we are, at this opportunity to expand the support and care we offer the children attending our Academy and wider community, and will consider favourably this request for support.
