My story

So I have decided to put my legs to good use and run the 2012 London Marathon!

I will be running on behalf of Help the Hospices, a charity and a cause that means a lot to me. So why am I putting myself through 26.2 miles of agony?!................

During the summer of 2011 I was unfortunate enough to lose both my Grandad and my Aunt, within the space of two months. As would be expected, both losses have had a profound affect on myself and my family.

My Grandad's passing was to be expected, with him slowly declining in health and being 95 years old. No matter how prepared you are though, it still takes you by surprise. My Aunt on the other hand, had battled a number of health issues in the 8 years since her retirement in 2003, including cancer and Parkinson's, and had put up an amazing battle before leaving us and joining her parent's and the angel's on the 25th June 2011 at the young age of 68.

During my Aunt's final months and days she received fantastic support and care from her local hospice which allowed her to pass in comfort and a dignified way with her family around her. I will forever be thankful to the hospice for their treatment, care and sincerity. They really are amazing people.

Just a few weeks before my Aunt passed, she had shown amazing strength and courage to help lay her Dad to rest. Her determination when in such a frail condition is my inspiration to run the 2012 London Marathon and help raise money for Help the Hospices and such a wonderful cause.

So please support me and Help the Hospices. Any donation, however big or small will make a difference. So please dig deep and donate now.

Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please, please, please donate what you can. It really will make a difference.

Thank you so much for your support.

Richard
