I'm running the London marathon in 2010 to help Homestart Portsmouth, a local branch of a national charity that through a network of trained parent volunteers supports hundreds of parents who are struggling to cope. The families they support need help for many reasons including post-natal illness, disability, bereavement, the illness of a parent or child, or social isolation. Parents supporting other parents - to help build a family's confidence and ability to cope. the ripple effect of this work in the local and wider community, as well as the direct benefits to the families supported, cannot be underestimated.
