Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Both being keen Geocachers we aim to undertake a 24 hour marathon geocaching trip around Suffolk and Norfolk aiming to find in excess of 200 geocaches in that time. To complicate things, Andy suffers from ongoing knee problems so cannot walk more than 200m unaided; to reach the caches he will use a wheel chair, an electric scooter (which will need to be recharged during the 24 hour period,) possibly his bicycle and no doubt his crutches! To give the scale of this challenge, Richard has previously found 14 geocaches on his best day, Andy has found 34 on his best day!

Geocaching is a worldwide game dedicated to GPS (Global Positioning System) users. The game basically involves a GPS user placing cleverly hidden containers called geocaches and publishing their exact coordinates so other GPS users can come on a "treasure hunt" to find it. Geocaching is open to everyone with a GPS and a sense of adventure.  There are over 2 million of geocaches hidden in 184 countries worldwide that are waiting for you to find them. There is even one on the International Space Station! The organization has its home on the Internet; visit the website if you want to learn more: http://www.geocaching.com

For Andy giving to Cancer Research is very personal; having lost his dad sometime ago, and a close friend within the last month. The friend’s wife is also battling cancer for the second time. For Richard, this month marks the tenth anniversary of his wife being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. For the rest of 2004 she underwent various forms of tests and treatments including chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Fortunately, and because of the work of charities like Cancer Research, she is still in remission.

So, if you would like to support our fundraising and help us reach our goal of £500, then please make a donation. If you are a tax payer, please remember to complete the gift aid section so that Cancer Research UK can grab back some of the tax you’ve paid.

Thank you.
