Antipodean Adventure - UK to Australia overland!
A big thank you for visiting the page to sponsor us for our self-funded trip - none of the money raised here goes towards us personally – everything goes towards ActionAid. If you’d like to know more, please read on, or visit our site at www.antipodeanadventure.org
This page has been created to make it easy for people to find out about our fundraising trip and to show their support by donating to ActionAid.
Our Objectives are:
- To travel from London to Sydney overland in our modified Land Rover 127, beginning in July 2006 and completing the trip in 9/10 months. The route will include some of ActionAid's main work locations
- To raise public awareness of the main issues ActionAid helps to tackle and raise as much money as possible to help this work continue
- To experience a trip of a lifetime!
Dwyer and Richard aim to travel from London, England to Sydney, Australia by 4x4 to raise awareness of the many issues ActionAid help to tackle - as well as raise as much money as possible. This international charity played major roles in the Make Poverty History Campaign, Live8 and rebuilding of communities following the Asian Tsunami disaster.
The key areas that ActionAid tackle are: Education Health HIV/AIDS Women's Rights and Gender Equality Humanitarian Disasters and Conflict Food Rights and Hunger.
Here are a 3 reasons why ActionAid's work is so important:
1. 6 million children under 5 die of hunger every year.
2. AIDS causes the deaths of approximately 8,200 people every single day, the majority of them in poor countries.
3. More than 30 million people flee their homes to escape conflict or natural disaster every year.
Here's some information on what your donations can achieve:
£15 could buy three basic HIV medical kits in southern Africa.
£58 could feed one child at a shelter in India for a year.
£70 could pay for a test to determine if HIV drugs are working in Kenya.
ActionAid have voiced their enthusiasm and interest in this project, providing both assistance and advice. The trip is self-financed, so any donation you make will go straight to ActionAid. The journey itself offers a once in a lifetime opportunity that has taken over two years to organise.
Our route also involves visiting various ActionAid projects in Pakistan, India, Cambodia and Thailand.
