On Saturday 15th May 2010, Richmond Orchestra will be performing a non-stop play-in concert at Sheen Lane Centre from 11:00 until 15:30. Do come along to listen - entry is free, donations are welcome.
Volunteers will be singing, conducting, and playing solos with the orchestra. It will be an entertaining and light hearted way to raise money, which will be divided equally between MacMillan Cancer Support and Richmond Orchestra.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Richmond Orchestra and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Richmond Orchestra will then pass on half of the funds raised to MacMillan Cancer Support.
Some more information about the two charities:
Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They are a source of support, helping with all the things that people affected by cancer want and need. It's not only patients who live with cancer, so they also help carers, families and communities. They guide people through the system, supporting them every step of the way. They fund over 5000 nurses and other specialist health care professionals and build cancer care centres. But they give so much more than medical help. People need practical support at home, so they provide anything from some precious time off for a carer to a lift to hospital. People need emotional support, so they listen, advise and share information though their CancerLine, website, support groups and trained professionals. People need financial help to cope with the extra costs cancer can bring, so they give benefits, advice, and grants for anything from heating bills to travel costs.
The Richmond Orchestra provides local symphony concerts for the people of . Our main sources of funding are ticket sales and playing members' subscriptions. But, in the company of most non-pro and professional orchestras, the books are only balanced through fundraising. More to the point, we also provide a range of musical opportunities to help others: we offer free concerto workshops to young players, play charity events, put on concerts for and with children, do open rehearsals in aid of church restoration, and we aim to play in settings where residents are unable to reach the concert hall. Our children's work has developed recently to the point where primary age young instrumentalists have sat in with us in the children's concert - much better for them than just listening to us. Beside these aspects of our work, if we are to be ambitious or adventurous with our programming, we need funds to hire music (costly when in copyright) and extra musicians who play unusual instruments.
Most of these activities would not be possible without extra sources of funding such as this Play-in.Please dig deep and donate now. Thank you.
