From Friday 31st July until Tuesday 4th August I will be walking the Hadrian's Wall National Trail in aid of Mountain Rescue England & Wales, along with a few good friends. The route is approximately 84 miles, spanning Northern England from Newcastle to Bowness-on-Solway, and so it will be a challenge to complete the route in four and a half days. To add a further complication the event organiser has decided that we should walk the route in Roman costume so I will dressed as a Roman gladiator. Please donate as much as you can to this worthwhile cause, as it will no doubt help me cope with the challenge of looking ridiculous for the entire route.
Mountain Rescue is staffed by volunteers, and supplies an absolutely critical service for those who get into difficulty on our mountains. I have witnessed at first hand the value of this service and absolute professionalism of the rescuers, when I phoned Mountain Rescue after I encountered a walker who had collapsed whilst hillwalking in Snowdonia. The helicopter arrived remarkably quickly, and the walker was transported to hospital where he was given life-saving medical attention, having suffered a heart attack.

And yes, I look just as good as Russell Crowe in a gladiator costume.
