My Dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2008, a disease from which there was, until very recently, an extremely low survival rate. In his own words, “the OPA became an absolute lifeline in those early days, and since. They recognise the enormous help that can come from surviving patients talking to new patients. The single ray of light in that first dark, despairing, grief filled weekend after diagnosis was our discovery of the OPA helpline. It’s now four years after the op to remove the cancer and I AM ALIVE AND KICKING!!!!” With it costing about £250 a day to run the national helpline, before any of their other activities, we would like to contribute to helping others who may find themselves in the same position as my Dad.
