Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I want to raise money for MCS because of their support for my Mum who died of cancer and my nephew who suffered with it when he was younger.
I love sea swimming and chose this challenge after taking part in many swimming events over recent years , including relays around Bermuda and across the Channel (and support swimming for clubmate Carlos Fresco's solo in September 07).
From my wonderful experiences of the Channel so far and from training in Dover harbour , I really couldn't miss this opportunity and was so pleased to be offered a support boat and crew. After nearly seven years away in Bermuda , I have found it all quite inspirational and so very English ! A classic retaining its old-school rules of course, ie no wetsuit , just trunks, cap and goggles .
I will be continuing to train at Barnet Copthall swim club and Parliament Hill Lido through the winter before sea training starts again in Dover harbour in earnest in May 08. I'm very excited about all this and will give it my very best shot , so please donate online and support my favourite charity. I am covering all my own costs for the swim , ie support boat , accommodation , kit etc , so all you give (less Justgiving's admin charge) will go straight to charity.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Macmillan Cancer Support will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support . I will try to update this message over the coming months to let you know how things are going with training .
Rob.
November 07 update: Gozo long distance sea training trip and 6 hour qualification swim now successfully completed . I know longer (and colder) training swims will have to be endured in Dover from next May but at least I have that trip under my belt as I head into Christmas and a great adventure next year.
April 08: 4 weeks to go until the start of Dover sea training and it's snowing !This should make Parliament Hill Lido interesting this week . Feeling good though from walking the Camino de Santiago last month and a warm start to the year with swim training in Australia .
May 08: Dover training started over the weekend , thank God ! A glorious couple of sunny days and still feeling good . I hope to crank out the sea miles there most weekends now.
July 08: 4 straight weekends now then Dover training is over and I start my tide.
7 August 08: I swam the Channel in 14 hours 4 minutes .
