Hi my friends,
On the 18th April 2010, I shall be running the Brighton Marathon!
It has come as a bit of surprise for me too; my training has just started - nothing like last minute decisions! So even more of a challenge. My house mate Damian has taken me under his training wing and hoping to make an athlete out of me in the time we can train together which amounts to about five weeks. Give and take the school ski trip and school trip to Nepal, my time is pretty short - I love my school!
I am running for the Thomas's London Day Schools charity The CAIRN Trust. The CAIRN Trust's mission is to develop and support sustainable rural village communities in Nepal through child education.
I am visiting Nepal in March to to see what The Cairn Trust has acheived so far and also their plans for the future. I shall be there for two weeks and just one week before the marathon so hopefully altitude training will give me the edge on the other runners! Ahh.....
Every pound I raise is important in helping The Cairn Trust provide educational opportunities for children in Nepal.
It costs only £60 to send a child to school for a year and my run will enable many more children in Nepal to gain an education.
Other useful information:
-
-
Over 50% of the population live on less than US$1 a day
-
-
A third of children who start school at 6 years will have dropped out by the age of 10 due to poverty
