My name is Robin Evans. I am a full time teacher and have been living in Kingston St Mary with my family for around 11 years. I am also a fully qualified bicycle mechanic (Cytech Level 2)- The industry's benchmark for experienced professional mechanics)
Service, repairs and wheel building
My aim is to raise money for Cancer Research in two ways:
1) by providing a high quality but inexpensive, bike repairs and servicing facility. .........payment by donation
For servicing or repairing your bike(s), there is no fixed charge. Instead you can donate, any amount, to Cancer Research UK either by using my "JustGiving" account or by paying by cash which is later transferred or used to buy parts or to re-stock cables, brakes etc
2) By restoring and selling donated bikes:
"Please don't dump it- donate it!"
If I am able to, I restore the more salvageable, donated bikes and sell them for the charity. This aspect of the project has been very successful over the winter months when many steeds are not needing a service because they are not being used!
Other donated bikes which might otherwise be heading for the dump are used for spares for restoration bikes. Frames can also be sold for scrap.
Bicycles are worked on in my fully equipped workshop. They can be dropped off by you or alternatively, I may be able to collect and return to your doorstep.
My labour is donated freely. However, any parts that may need to be bought are paid for separately by the bike owner. I always consult\ advise before proceeding to buy parts. I am often able to offer salvaged components from donated bikes. I also have very fast access to new components if this option is preferred.
I have recently lost another friend to cancer. He was passionate about cycling and he and his wife also ran a cycle hire business in the New Forest. I have inherited Simon’s beloved road bike along with lots of workshop tools. My family and I also share a passion for all things to do with bicycles and have raced (cross country and road), toured and commuted to work over many years. Over a lifetime of cycling I have acquired a wide range of maintenance and repair skills.
In January, I had an intense but superb week, working one to one, with a highly qualified, top, professional mechanic. This was done in preparation to take The Cytech Technical Level 2 Assessment. This is the cycling industry's benchmark qualification for experienced professional mechanics.
I also own a range of road and off-road bikes myself and feel happy working on state of the art carbon or titanium machines as well as the budget bikes. The former are often far easier!
If you would like to book a bike in for repair or service please either ring me at home on 01823 451490 or contact me by email on robinevansh40@aol.com.
I am also happy to collect your old bikes.
A recent, very generous donation of 2 old bikes, which I serviced and spruced up raised £240 !
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
