My story

ROCK and RESPITE for Francis House

Rock and Respite is an all-day event bringing the cream of up-and-coming bands together in a unique fundraiser for Manchester's celebrated Francis House Children's Hospice.

However, as we're aware that not everyone who'd like to come along on the day will be able to do so, we've set up a way for everyone join in wherever they are and donate what they can to Francis House.

More about Rock and Respite and Francis House

Date: Sunday 19 September 2010

Time: 2pm-11pm
Venue: Sound Control, Manchester

Rock and Respite seeks not only to raise some much needed cash but also to bring Francis House and its work to the attention of a new, younger audience.

Francis House provides essential respite and terminal care for families with children suffering from life-limiting conditions and illnesses; all in a loving, comfortable and fun home-from-home environment.

Crucially, Francis House provides all this care free of charge to anyone who needs it. And plenty of people need it.

There are now well over 200 very poorly children and their families depending on respite care at Francis House and as that number increases, the amount of time each family can use the facilities steadily decreases.

So, to keep pace with demand, additional accommodation at Francis House desperately needs to be built. Of course, this all costs cold, hard cash and this is where Rock and Respite wants to help.

The inspiration for Rock and Respite comes from Elizabeth, the severely disabled, seven year old daughter of the event's organiser, Manchester photographer, Stephen Campbell.

In common with her friends at Francis House, Elizabeth loves music and when her father saw how positively even the most unresponsive children reacted to their music therapy, he knew using music to raise money and awareness was the way to go.

Bands lined up to play Rock and Respite include (in alphabetical order): Blind Atlas, Clint Boon (DJ), Exit Calm, Frazer King, Jesse Rose Trip, Kid British, Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six, NO*TOKYO, Sonic Boom Six, The Hidden Revolution, The Lovely Eggs, The Suns, The Switch, The Travelling Band, This Morning Call and Twin Thea.

Tickets are available now from Ticketline priced at £5 (plus booking fee), £7 on the day.
