COMPLETE!!!!!

We both completed the marathon and are still alive to tell the tale!  Rodney did a time of 6.51 and Kevin 5.39.

TRAINING UPDATE!!! 23/3/8

Yesterday we both completed a 22 mile training run!  The wind was ridiculous and most of the time it was difficult just standing up, let-alone move forward!  There are only 3 weeks to go to the marathon, so this was the final "long run".  The taper process starts now and the main objective is to rest & refuel, but also ensure that we get to the start line injury and illness free.

TRAINING UPDATE!!! 16/3/8

With only 4 weeks to go to the marathon, we both attempted 20 miles yesterday.  The good news is, we both completed it, and are on course for a successful marathon!

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.  Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

My name is Rodney and my team mate is Kevin.  We are both going to attempt the 2008 Flora London Marathon (FLM) in order to raise funds for the Calvert Trust.

I have never run a marathon (or any running event) before and weighing in at 21st 8lb I have the extra challenge of losing a fair bit of weight - I am aiming to get down to a more reasonable 15st.  Before embarking on this challenge I couldn't run between two lamp-posts!  Therefore my marathon challenge comes in two parts - firstly to lose the weight which will secondly allow me to complete the course.  Another twist to my marathon goal is that I have Arthritis!  Hopefully losing the weight and getting fitter will help ease this.

Kevin has run FLM in the past - his most recent outing being the 2007 event.  However, he also has a weight "issue" and this lead to him posting a personal worst time of 7hr 8min.  He wants to drop from 17st 7lb to 13st and even try and go sub 4hr!  Kev suffers with blisters, so running for him is the purest form of pain!

We are undertaking these huge personal challenges to raise money for the Calvert Trust.  This is a charity set up to provide activity holidays to disabled people and their families.  Through 3 centres across the country (Exmoor, Keswick & Kielder) people are able to try out activities which some might consider only suitable for able bodied participants - Imagine abseiling or paragliding in a wheelchair!

More information regarding the Calvert Trust can be found by visiting their website, http://www.calvert-trust.org.uk/.

One of the charities motto's is "It's what you can do that counts".  We are both fortunate enough to be relatively fit & healthy (other than an over-enthusiastic enjoyment of food!).  Therefore, we are undertaking these challenges to help other people acheive their full potential.

Although we are both "relatively fit & healthy" neither of us are natural runners.  This combined with a combined weight loss goal of over 10 stone between us, my arthritis and Kevins blisters means that this is a HUGE challenge for us to undertake.  This cannot be stressed enough - its going to be hard work!

Please be generous and sponsor us - your money will go towards providing an experience for someone, the memory of which and sense of acheivement will stay with them long after the holiday has past - a real opportunity to positively improve someones life.

For up-to-date progress reports, please visit my website http://www.borg-tech.co.uk/.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Calvert Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
