WE DID IT!!! (Account by Flora)
Thank you all very much for sponsoring us. We can't believe our total is now £4,100 (and rising!)

We set off from Bowness-on-Soloway on the West coast at 12:47 on Saturday morning. We ran through the night and the rain, changing our shoes several times along the way to try to prevent blisters. Our fantastic support crew met us at prearranged checkpoints to feed us, fill up our drinks bottles and dry out our shoes. By dawn, we had covered about 30 miles and reached the hilliest section of the route.

We used walking poles to help us up the steep hills and steady ourselves on the way down. With a marathon’s distance still to run – and much to my frustration – I collapsed due to exhaustion having not been able to eat enough. Our support crew were great and wrapped me in foil and force fed me energy gels, After 15 minutes, I was fit enough to continue and we were on our way again.

By the time we reached Corbridge I realised I was now holding George back. We were both worried that we wouldn’t finish within the 24 hours so we agreed that he would speed on to ensure that at least one of us did. George did amazingly well and arrived at the fort in Wallsend after 22 hours and 10 minutes.

Having made my way along the river Tyne, through Newcastle’s city centre, dodging drunken revellers vomiting into bins, I made it through the centre and out the other side to be cheered over the finish line by George, our support crew and some bemused bystanders, and (unofficially) picked up the women’s record!

The Plan.... (By George)

Last October I was hit by a 40mph taxi

I suffered serious brain injury, was in a coma, spent several days in intensive care and a month being treated in the Royal London Hospital. Check out my recovery page

Luckily I have recovered comparatively quickly and am now wanting to set myself a new challenge.

Last summer Flora and I completed a 4600km cycle ride from Wiltshire to Istanbul in 40 days so we are now looking for our next expedition. www.hittingthewall.biz

We are going to try to run Hadrians Wall in under 24 hours on the 3rd September - 84 miles of hilly terrain.

We will be raising money for a charity called Headway, which supports people with brain injuries.

Visit our website for more info.

Many thanks,

Flora and George
