I must be totally and utterly mad but I am about to take part in one of the most challenging marathons in the world - it is also titled the highest marathon in the world! We leave Kathmandu on 19 Nov and it takes us over 2 weeks to trek to the start line - which is at Gorak Shep, 5184m, which is just below Everest Base Camp. We then have the joy of running back down the mountain to Namche Bazaar which is at a mere 3446m. I have been training hard for many months and I am hoping to cope with the altitude and not suffer any Altitude Mountain Sickness - running at over 5000m is going to be very difficult!
The charity that I am raising funds for is the Everest Marathon Fund which is in aid of development projects in Nepal. Nepal is a country that needs a considerable amount of development not least to provide safe water and electricity to its population.
