My story
'Cecilia' and 'half marathon' aren't words I ever expected to see in the same sentence. And yet here I am... I started running last autumn and have never done anything like this distance before but during a moment of madness – disguised as clarity – I signed up for the Berlin Half Marathon. I blame Pete and Jenny who first planted the seed... However, as I've now paid the fee and booked the flight, I'm going to do my best to make it around without stopping; if I can do it in a time I'm happy to make public then all the better! And I'm doing it for charity because it seemed stupid not to.
I've decided to run for Eaves, a charity that supports and empowers women who have been affected by sexual and domestic violence. Eaves runs several projects but two stand out for me for various reasons - the Serafina Project (for victims of domestic violence) and the Poppy Project (for women who have been trafficked into exploitation, such as prostitution, in the UK). Due to government cuts, the support that Eaves can provide has been drastically reduced - where the Poppy Project used to have 54 beds, it now has just 15, and while there used to be more than 10 safehouses for women and their children escaping domestic violence, there are now just two. Anything you are able to donate will help provide support for women who badly need to escape their current situations and rebuild their lives.

Eaves' ethos is to put women first. It provides services to support and promote the interests of vulnerable, excluded and exploited women and children. These include women trafficked into prostitution in the UK, homeless women with additional support needs, women and children fleeing domestic violence. The charity also conducts essential research on all issues of violence against women.
