Hello buddies,

I am Mick, I have curly hair and I love cheese.  I am also running the marathon, so please sponsor me, end of chat.

ps…

I'm running on behalf of the British Dyslexia Association, who specialise in an area which I personally consider very important, and which my Mum (Hi Mum) has dedicated many years of hard work towards.  I’m therefore delighted that I've been given the opportunity to raise both funds and awareness for this cause.  If you'd spare a minute to read the little piece I've prepared below, then you'll have helped me do the awareness part  :O)

Approx 10% of British people are dyslexic. (4% severely so).
An overwhelming majority of people misunderstand what dyslexia actually is.  It is quite difficult to explain, but here's my attempt...
The neurons in a dyslexic person's brain are structured differently from those in a non-dyslexic's brain.  This is often manifested by difficulties in absorbing and expressing language, including reading, writing and spelling.   However, this imbalance usually brings about higher abilities in other areas, and in extreme cases leads to astonishing human capability.  Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, John Lennon, to name a few.
Expertise in Dyslexia has increased dramatically in the last 2 decades, and methods are being developed to help dyslexic people reach their full potential.  However there is still a long way to go, and tragically, due the common misconception of Dyslexia, along with lack of support, many people with dyslexia, go through a lot of suffering, and have to overcome numerous barriers in order to make a contribute to society.

Pps…
I’m already well in to my training, feeling confident and well prepared, hoping to smash the 4 hour boundary and take it home for breakfast (whatever that means)
