Thanks for all your amazing donations - just so thrilled that we could raise so much as a family for Alzheimer's Research Trust. Keep them coming!
Why?
Rod had ‘early-onset’ Alzheimer’s Disease. From the age of 57 the brain malfunction essentially increased until he died this year at 66. Every sufferer experiences a unique set of symptoms. Rod’s were acute. If you refer to the Global Deterioration Scale which is used to measure the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease, Rod spent almost half the time with the disease at Stage 6/7.
As you can imagine this has had an enormous effect on the family. The pain and horror of this situation doesn’t have to be the case for other families in the future. We believe that raising money for Alzheimer’s Research Trust is a good step in combating Dementia.
What are we doing?
On Sunday 18th October the 3 brothers, Kit, Mark & James will be running the Amsterdam Marathon and Louise & Amanda will be running the Amsterdam Half-Marathon.
We have all been training for this big challenge in our different ways. Kit the seasoned marathoner has dedicated himself to the book 'Advanced Marathoning' in preparation knowing that it is a fast course; Mark has run over 800km this year using his gadget GPS watch as a motivator; James has been playing 300 holes of golf every week as well as training; Louise has got a new dog and gets encouraging phone calls from her daughters while running, and Amanda’s been running round Amsterdamse bos with Jed on his bicycle.
How you can donate
JustGiving.com is amazing – to think that over £500million has been raised through this website! In the past you could pledge money so if we completed the run we would update the website and then the donation money could be released. However, now that JustGiving.com does not store credit card security information you can not pledge money on completion of the run. So you can either:
Donate money now
OR
click on Remind me to Donate Later (the active link is to the left) so you can get a reminder after 18th October to check our Justgiving page to see how we did
Donations can either be done anonymously or you can leave a message (which would be great to see).
....... and finally
In our various trainings we have just completed our final ‘long run’ before we taper off in preparation for the big day. We are under no illusion as to how demanding this challenge will be BUT we are excited that as a family we can be together ‘Running for Rod’ and hope to reach our target for Alzheimer’s Research. Please support us.
