On 12 July I'm shaving my head (what's left of it) and running the British 10k to raise money for the Cancer Counselling Trust. My great friend Leonie (pictured) is having chemotherapy at the moment after having been diagnosed with breast cancer. I've seen first hand how vital the support of family, friends, and the Harley Street Cancer Centre staff, has been to Leonie.

Many of us will face a diagnosis of cancer at some time in our lives.  Whether it be yourself, a family member or a friend, it may bring with it difficult and painful feelings.  Face-to-face or telephone counselling can be invaluable for those in need at such a difficult time. The Cancer Counselling Trust is a small Islington based charity that supports cancer patients, their families, and friends, across the UK who seek expert counselling to help them cope with the difficult issues triggered by a cancer diagnosis.

My aunt Glenda does part time counselling for the Cancer Counselling Trust. She says that most of the charity money for cancer goes towards research and very little to the counselling of those who are struggling on a daily basis.
The Trust is struggling to raise funds at the moment because of the economic downturn. The service they provide is free of charge so they rely on donations.
