My story

Update:  I finished the Great North Run on Sunday in 02:19:49.... Thanks for your support.  If you still want to make a donation to the BNRT it is not too late....I'm thinking the Edinburgh Marathon could be the next challenge.

Great North Run 2009

This Sunday (20 September) I will be taking part in the Great North Run in support of the British Neurological Research Trust (BNRT).  I am running for my friend Tim Smith (Cardiacs).

The British Neurological Research Trust was established in 1987 to support the research needed to find a method of repairing damage to the brain and spinal cord in patients suffering from the effects of various injuries and conditions including stroke, head injuries, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, birth injuries as well as degenerative conditions such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases (http://www.ion.ucl.ac.uk/research/hbir/spinal_repair_unit.htm for further information).  The BNRT is a really important charity which makes a real difference to the understanding and treatment of neurological damage but unfortunately it remains under-funded.

I will not be breaking any records in running the GNR but I hope to at least finish it and in doing so raise some money for the BNRT.

I have already passed my target of £1,000..... but would really appreciate your support in helping me completely smash the target!  Please dig deep.... any contributions will make a huge difference!!

Thank you.

Sally

PS If you want to make a donation but are unable to (or don't want to do so) online then email me and we can make alternative arrangements.

Training so far:

Sunday 6 September 2009:  Great Yorkshire Run, Sheffield (10km). Best time yet..... 00:58:47!!!  Hooray!

Sunday 23 August: Hermitage Harriers 10km, Whitwick, Leicestershire - hills, hills, hills, combined with headwind and heat.  A pretty gruelling 10k, completed in 1hr 05min.  Not great, but not too bad.

Sunday 26 July (Nakita's 1st birthday) 2009:  Harrogate City Centre 10k, completed in 01:00:59 - not bad given the lack of training.

14-22 July 2009:  Training interrupted by having to go back to New Jersey.

6 July 2009:  Book places on the Harrogate 10k and GYR 10k to try and motivate myself to train.

18 June 2009:  Find out I have a place on GNR - start thinking about a training plan.

Planned runs:

Sunday 20 September 2009:  Great North Run!!!!!!!!!
