Update: Sunday 22nd November.
As you can see, on Monday 9th November 2009 at 10am local time, I reached my goal. It was a truly memorable moment, one that will stay with me forever. Thankyou to all those who have supported me, I'm well on my way to reaching my target. It was a long hard walk (harder on the way down!), but well worth the effort. No words or pictures can adequately describe the sense of awe and wonder I felt as I stood at ABC, completely surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the world.
Thank you very much,
Sally
I've talked about it for long enough - now it's almost time to go trekking! On 30th October I'm leaving for Nepal to undertake a 10 day trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) to mark my 40th birthday (although it was earlier this year that wasn't the trekking season). It's only a small matter of walking up to a height of over 13,400 feet. What AM I letting myself in for? It's twice as far, twice as long and twice as high as I've ever walked before, so I really, really need your support to spur me on.
I'm raising money for Exodus Himalayan Community Support Projects. Exodus have been organising treks to Nepal for 35 years and have developed many long lasting partnerships and friendships with operators, leaders and local communities. Wishing to give something back to the area, it supports small-scale practical projects that can help local communities and preserve or improve the environment, whilst giving the maximum possible long-term economic benefit. They have focused on supporting children and their educational needs, supplying basic resources to communities, such as fresh water and sustainable wood supplies, as well as introducing some alternative technologies to help the environment.
For more indepth details of the projects see
http://www.exodus.co.uk/responsible-travel/our-projects/himalayan-community-support
All the money I raise will be split equally between the various projects and administered via Friends of Conservation.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now and remember me on the 11th November as I stand at ABC, looking up to the summit of my mountain!
Thanks alot
Sally
