**UPDATE FRIDAY 12th MARCH, 8.55pm: NEW CONCERT DATE ANNOUNCED!**
It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce a new date for the Samoa Concert. We have been able to keep the same venue, St. Marylebone Church, but on the new date of SUNDAY 16th MAY, at 6pm. We would be delighted if you are able to join us, and we hope that this time the weather will be a little kinder to us. Your donations are of course still most welcome, and please be re-assured that every penny you donate will be transferred to the Samoan Red Cross to be spent in Samoa. Encourage your friends, family and colleagues to come along too - it promises to be a wonderful and entertaining evening!
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Samoa Concert JustGiving page!
The concert is at 6pm on Sunday 16th May at St. Marylebone Church, London NW1 5LT. Put the date in your diary!
The National Youth Choir of Great Britain visited Samoa in 2003 as part of our World Tour. We had a fantastic time and were treated like family by the Samoans we stayed with. They gave us copious quantities of food, gave up their houses so we could sleep, and stayed up all night to keep the bugs and mosquitoes off us.
We have organised this concert to raise some money to help rebuilding efforts after a massive tsunami hit the region on 29th September 2009. The village we stayed in and the nearby resort where we rehearsed were seriously damaged. The resort, Sinalei has been closed since, and is not due to re-open until April next year, impacting tourism in that part of the island. It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Tui Annandale, the wife of the owner of the Sinalei Resort, who was killed whilst trying to escape the tsunami with her mother. No guests or staff in the hotel at the time were killed, but several were injured.
We hope you can give generously to help our friends in Samoa. Many people have never even heard of Samoa, let alone know where it is, but everyone who has been there knows about the incredible generosity and friendliness of the inhabitants of this small speck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. In order to claim Gift Aid to make your donation go further, we are unable to sell tickets via JustGiving. With that in mind however, we'd like to suggest a donation of £10 if you would like to come to our concert. Of course, if you would like to give more, or if you are unable to attend the concert but would still like to donate, your generosity would be much appreciated.
If you would like to attend the concert, please send a message to timothy.brignall@gmail.com with a full list of all people who will be coming, just so we know how many people to expect. Please bring along any extras on the night!
There will be an exciting program of Samoan songs, NYC tour repertoire, and old favourites. The program will be announced closer to the time.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Just to remind you, the concert is at 6pm on Sunday 16th May at St. Marylebone Parish Church, Marylebone Road, London NW1 5LT. Nearest tube stations are Regent's Park and Baker Street.
