I decided to make 2010 my year of challenges... having taken part in the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K over the previous 3 years and the inaugural York 10K in 2009, I decided to enter my first half marathon and after further consideration I thought I'd raise the bar by entering my first marathon... and finally I thought "in for a penny, in for a pound". So here it is, my list of challenges from 2010. Throughout the year I took part in 21 runs, walked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, and completed my first ever Skydive. Many thanks to all my supporters; it was a tough year but also very rewarding! Here is the list of all my completed challenges: Assisted Free fall Sky-Dive from 14,000 feet - June 12th Castle Howard 10K - June 13th Staveley 10 mile - June 20th Leeds 10K - July 4th Eccup 10 mile - July 11th Harrogate 10K - July 25th York 10K - August 1st Yorkshire 3 Peaks - August 7th Rydale 10 mile - September 5th Garstang Half Marathon - September 19th Loch Ness Marathon - October 3rd Harewood 10K - October 31 Leeds Abbey Dash 10K – November 21 If you know me you’ll know that I was previously a fair weather runner who took part in the odd 10K and liked to go walking in the country now and then. I've always liked a challenge but never pushed myself too hard, in 2009 I walked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks for the first time and completed 3 10K runs and my first 10-mile race. Throughout 2010 I have run over 180 miles competitively and in my training I will ran over 1000 miles! All of the events I took part in were self-funded and every penny donated will go to charity. My chosen charity is The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which was set up by a very determined Yorkshire woman to help children's and cancer charities across Yorkshire, the UK and the globe. Those of you who know me well will know that this charity is very close to my heart, and those who knew Jane will know where all my inspiration has come from. If you'd like to know more about the charity, please go to the website (www.janetomlinsonappeal.com), but in brief, before her death in 2007 Jane raised £1.85m through a series of incredible physical challenges. Since then the charity has continued to raise money with the help of many people and its total has exceeded an incredible £3m, a new target has been set at £5m. Please help to continue the good work of all the charities involved by digging deep and encouraging me with your donations and support.
