Hi my name is Scott Gibb, I'm 42 years old and a Brocher who lives in a village called Crimond which is half way between Fraserburgh and Peterhead, thats Aberdeenshire, Scotland. I decided that I didn't want to be fat and forty so before I was 40 I took up running with the Fraserburgh Running Club. I enjoy going out on a Monday and Wednesday night for the training and race nights so I thought I would give myself a real challenge and applied to go for the London Marathon. I have been accepted to run on behalf of the Sailors Society which ties in well as I work on a ship for Gulf Offshore.
Well at me jist back again from Trinidad & Tobago, am down there on the medium sized anchor handling vessel HIGHLAND COURAGE, i've been there for the past 3 trips before that on medium sised ahtsHIGHLAND ENDURANCE, until last trip i was training outside in Trinny, but it was just too hot so idid all my running on the ships treadmill, but after doing 300 miles on it it clapped out on me , nevermind it was getting hard work do 20 mile run on a treadmill! and am sure well i hope that Gulf Offshore will get a new treadmill on our ship.
So i've just got back and back to traninig again i got a new pair of Nike Lunar Glides(the last ones had done over 600 miles, and are in my opinion the best shoe's out there , well for my feet anyway). I ran a 21 mile slow run yesterday and it felt fine, thats the longest i've ever ran!
The Sailors' Society provides a personal lifeline for seafarers on board and when they step ashore. Existing to enrich and enhance the well-being of seafarers in port through its Port Chaplains and Centres, seafarers are offered practical help and welfare, spiritual support, financial assistance and family liaison. Their Port Chaplains visit thousands of ships during the year and are often the first to notice when all is not well on board.
Reaching out to crew members of all ranks, without distinction for faith, denomination, ethnic background or nationality, the Port Chaplains of the Sailors' Society offer a friendly presence, unconditionally greeting seafarers where they meet them.
