In January 2010 a group of us are funding our own trips and climbing three volcanos in Guatemala (2 of which are active...!!) in order to raise money for a charity called Education for the Children Foundation. Our trek will last 3 days and we are trying to raise as much money as possible for this incredibly worthwhile cause. And so, with walking boots and rucksacks at the ready, we will be camping on the side of the volcanoes, dodging lava & treking to an altitude of nearly 4000 meters...it's going to be one hell of a challenge!

So here's why we're doing it...

  • In Guatemala almost 60% of children of school age do not attend school
  • Only 5% of Guatemalan children enter high school
  • Over 56% of Guatemalans live in poverty
  • 24% of Guatemalans live on the equivalent of $1 per day
  • 49% of children under the age of 5 suffer from chronic malnutrition

All of the money we raise from your kind donations will go straight to the children, to give them a chance to break out of the poverty cycle through education. Your money will go towards maintaining the school which has been set up by the Foundation, ensuring the children recieve meals and clean water to drink. For some of these children, the meal they receive at school is all they will eat that day. Please dig deep to give these children hope for a future.

    Thank you for your donations!

    Sian x
