My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This page is now extended to cover my next challenge - The Great Bearded Bike Off for Brain Tumours on May 26th 2013, whereby we will be riding The South Downs Way - From Dusk till Dawn

For more info & how to join in yourself too if you wish with your own specific Bike & Beard challenge, look up the event on Facebook - just search The Great Bearded Bike Off for Brain Tumours

As those of you who know me are already aware, I am not much of a sportsman, but I do like to ride. Last year I rode Land's End to John O' Groats - this years challenge of the South Downs Way may be just one day, but the day itself will be tougher than any of the 12 days of LeJog as it's all off road!

So why am I doing this, and why for Brain Tumour Research?

The first reason is simple, somebody challenged me! The second is slightly more complex - it is not until someone close to you is diagnosed with a Brain Tumour that you truly realise what a devastating form of cancer this is

Brain Tumours kill more people under 40 than any other form of cancer - yet Brain Tumour Research receives less than 1% of all cancer research funds.

I want to make a difference to the future of Brain Tumour Research - and £2740 is the difference I want to make.

Why £2740? This is what it takes to run a research centre such as the one in The University of Portsmouth - for just one day.

After a brilliant year last year, whereby between the ride & the work of the Astrium Emplyoee Charity Committee we raised enough to fund 4 day's research, the goal this year is to get a fifth day - a whole week!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

My updates 3

Beard is 3 weeks in, it looks ready! Whether my legs are is another matter

OK - The bar has been raised! This year's target is set, & if we achieve this we will have funded 5 full days of crucial Brain Tumour Research. A whole week! How good would that be?

26/04/13 08:25

Just under a week after finishing, and feeling EPIC! No post ride blues, no fatigue - just energy for the next challenges

Brain Tumour Research

Charity Registration No. 1093411

In the UK more children and people under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer and yet it receives less than 1% of national cancer research spending. Our goal is to raise funds to accelerate progress in UK brain tumour research, make a clinical difference and improve patient outcomes.
