<p><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Why Living Streets?</span></span></span></strong><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Living Streets is a UK-wide charity that works to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets for people on foot. I believe that the best way to get people thinking about the environment is to start where they live (think global, act local and all that...).</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Living Streets does this. I particularly like the work the organisation does in our most deprived communities, which often suffer from the worst local environments (see the videos here for examples of the work they do: <a href="http://www.livingstreets.org.uk/our-projects/fitter-for-walking/">http://www.livingstreets.org.uk/our-projects/fitter-for-walking/</a></span><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">. My favourite one is from the North West, in Blackburn where I grew up). They then also use this experience to lobby for changes in national policy, so everyone benefits. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">(And yes, I do work for Living Streets, but that’s because I’m passionate about what the organisation stands for!)</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span></p>
<p><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">My challenge</span></span></span></strong><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">I will do my challenge during National Walking Month in May 2012, as part of the Great British Walking Challenge. I’ve decided it must have an Olympic theme, so I’m going to try to walk a total of 2 marathons in 2 weeks....so that’s a total of 52 miles, which I will aim to complete in the first two weeks of May.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">I’m not getting any time off work or anything to complete this, so it’s going to be lots of walking to and from work, lunchtime walking and maybe walking meetings if I can persuade my colleagues!</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">I will log my miles on the Great British Walking Challenge website, and will also be tweeting about it (including pictures etc.) during the challenge: </span><a href="http://www.twitter.com/simonbromhead"><span style="color: #0000ff; font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"><span style="color: #0000ff;">www.twitter.com/simonbromhead</span></span></a><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"> if you want to follow what I’m up to. </span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: small;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: &amp;amp;amp; font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">Please sponsor me – I’m still unsure if this is a crazy idea, so getting sponsorship will make me feel like it’s worth it! Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to Living Streets and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it's the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whist saving time and cutting costs for the charity. </span></span></p>
