My story

Morning, afternoon and good evening.

"Life is for giving.........taking is for those that need it!"

Most of us take being able bodied for granted, walking to the shops, stepping into a hot bubbley bath on a Sunday night, kicking a coke can down the road pretending to be Pele, holding hands with your loved one...well not me! I think about these things, how lucky I am to be fit, healthy and happy and as those that know me, I do make the most of this fact having hiked most of the country, trekked Peru, Iceland, Africa and of course summited Kilimanjaro all in the name of charity.

Now what if you couldn't do this? What if you couldn't walk, couldn't sit up, couldn't even brush your own teeth...have you ever thought about that?

Now these guys at Action For Kids, think about it all the time. I'ts not just a job for them, it's a way of life.

Helping disabled kids and young adults to become more mobile, to try and become active, to gain confinence, to try and deal with every day life...it's tough man....tough!

Helping a wheel chair bound beautiful young lady with cerebral palsy to adapt her chair so that she can independently raise up to near vertical while strapped in, not only helps the muscles and aids other medical conditions, but actually makes every day life more bearable. Quote "people no longer talk over me as if i'm not even there. Now I can look and talk to people at eye level, face to face". Think about it!

This was a tiny example of what I witnessed during my visit to Action For Kids HQ. Developing a PC mouse that can be operated by your chin, interactive bar code and picture cards to assist in communication, helping kids with learning difficultes...they are intelligent...they just need to be able to express it. This is just a tiny slice of what this amazing charity offers.

Now, what if it was your child...how would you deal with this day in, day out, day in, day out, day in, day out, day in, day out, day in, day out. Yeah monotonous right! Well Action For Kids also help, support and provide advice to the parents. It can't be easy: those that have able bodied children know how tough it can be....what if your child couldn't pick up a spoon at the age of ten. Think about it!

So here's the chill deal: I pledge to partake in the following:-

 * Run a half marathon (13.1 miles) with my trusted iron and ironing board

* Run the London Marathon 'without' my trusted iron and ironing board

* Lead an amazing team of crazy volunteers to the summit of the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon carrying not just an iron and iron board but also a rotary washing line and of course a washing machine!! Hopefully some of the kids can get the train to top and help wash our Action For Kids T-Shirts!

Extreme ironing is so last year....Extreme Laundry is the future!!

And in return, you click on the little button that say's DONATE NOW and spare me a few of your hard earned pennies in support of Action For Kids

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please pleeeeeeeaaaase be as generous as you can. This is a small charity and these kids need your help and remember....life is for giving......taking is for those that need it

Thank you

Si
