Susanna wants to raise money for MAGPAS and this is why...
As you may know, I broke my femur and wrist horse riding in April. I was really lucky to be given amazing medical care in the field by a team of volunteer medics from MAGPAS. I cannot remember much apart from the wind as they arrived by helicopter but I do remember Jo's red hair and kind voices as they looked after me.
I went to meet the team at RAF Wyton, where they are based, a few weeks ago and it was really special to be able to say "Thank You" to Chris, Jo and Dan. MAGPAS is a charity set up by GP's to offer emergency help at road traffic accidents. This has changed over the years and now MAGPAS offers A&E care at the scene of serious accidents and supports the ambulance service, who will call on MAGPAS if they need to. MAGPAS is made up of volunteers who s on their days off help others.
I was lucky they arrived and I was made comfortable with the strong painkillers they gave me and then I was transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital by ambulance.
I will be jogging/walking/crawling from Tetworth Hall, Sandy, where I had my accident, to Addenbrooke's Hospital on Sunday 16th October 2011. This is a distance of 19.4miles.
I will not be alone as my mother is going to come with me. This is what she has to say..."Help".
