My story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for Dementia UK.

Why Dementia UK?

When you first hear about the diagnosis of dementia, you are hit with a wave of grief emotions - anger, denial, blame, guilt, depression - to mention but a few. Dementia is a mind shattering diagnosis to receive and it can leave you thinking it's all over as soon they wont even recognise me and I'm going to lose my love one. I am able to tell you this because sadly, it's exactly what happened to me 10 years ago when my beloved mother was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia! :o(

10 years on and I still find myself looking at my bedridden mum wondering if there was more awareness, support and training for carers and families, would my mother have been in the condition that she is today? My feeling is no, she wouldn't!

Dementia is most often thought of as a memory disorder, an illness of the aging mind. In its initial stages, that's true — memory loss is an early hallmark of dementia. But experts in the field say dementia is more accurately defined as fatal brain failure: a terminal disease, just like cancer, that physically kills patients! It's not simply a mental ailment that accompanies older age and so in my humble opinion, we should try to do more to raise awareness and try to make improvements now as Dementia is on the rise.

JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Dementia UK and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Also, please help me to spread the word about the event. On my own, it will merely be a drop in the ocean but together with everyone's support, we can make a BIG SPLASH! Many Thanks & Appreciation for your support.
