The Smiles Appeal aims to raise £350,000 enabling us to build our own eco friendly home (to be called Smiles House) providing additional space for service expansion to include pre-bereavement work and a drop in service.
We aim to create an ecologically friendly and cost effective building which will be made from straw bales. For over 100 years, this natural building material has been used and proves to be durable and safe. is well known for its agriculture and with straw in plentiful supply across the County we aim to make this a real project.
It is currently estimated that 1 in 29 school aged children have been bereaved of a parent or sibling, in this equates to approximately 3,825 children. This figure is significantly higher when pre-school children and 17 year olds are included. During 2009, a total of 209 children from around received a service from us. We estimate that 280 children, living in , experience the death of a significant person in their lives annually.
